The Break Evens Do Rocket To Russia!

Recorded live utilizing a portable Tascam DR-40 on Thursday, 6-4-2009 during "Perfect Album Nights" At Asbury Lanes, Asbury Park, NJ.

The Groucho Marxists also performed that night, doing Joe Jackson's "I'm The Man".

For better or worse here are the original gig notes I wrote (taken from our website):

"We were originally going to perform Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers "L.A.M.F.", but due to our schedules being so craptastic we had to nix doing that and do something we could get down a lot quicker, and in less rehearsal time, hence "Rocket To Russia". Pound for pound, it's probably my favorite Ramones record (yeah, sure a lot of people would say that, but don't you forget I actually LOVE the later albums, "Halfway To Sanity" included!). Besides, we sorta knew half of it already. Outside of a rough soundcheck (and crappily tuned drums-thanks, Pierce, for fixing that), the set went remarkable well. We were pretty fucking tight, if I do say so myself. Listening back to the set (yeah, I bootlegged our own set-but then again, if it's our band, are we really bootlegging ourselves?) it seems like we had one hell of an "on" night. Minus a flubbed note and lyric here or there, we sounded like a machine. Johnny would've been proud, methinks. We all had a great time, and the crowd that came out on a shitty Thursday night were nice and receptive to our particular brand of Ramones-coverage. Thanks to you all for coming out to see us do this unusual set. A special thanks to Chris Pierce for having us on the bill to begin with, and thank you to Asbury Lanes' very own Jenn for thinking I was 10 years younger than I actually am.

We hope to do this again sometime. I'm also amazed Mel actually played "Surfin" Bird", considering the song drives him crazy."

Cheers,
Jay
